Feeling of vigor

The white glaze with Gosu (dark cyan) stripes appears on this cup. Gosu stripe is one of the traditional Japanese potter patterns. These stripes give vigor to the cup. You can glimpse of the earthy surface under the glossy glaze. Little waves of ridges make horizontal border patterns on the outside of the body, and create the interesting aspects. The swift stripes and the neat body line match well on this cup. This cup will help to make a Japanese look on your table.


  Ippukuwan

Ippukuwan look like sencha-cups, but they are usually larger and thicker. They are kind of a new style. There is no certain name for this kind of cup. They are sometimes called “ippukuwan” or “tappuriwan”. They will be appreciated when you want to have a little longer break with a plenty of tea. They are useful like mug cups. You can use them as a daily personal cup. They will also be good for guest tea cups. There are a variety in colors and patterns. Find your favorite one!


  A tradition of quality

Produced in the Toki, Tajimi, Mizunami, and Kani regions of Gifu prefecture with a 1300-year history, Mino ware accounts for over 50 percent of Japanese ceramics now. As “the way of tea” gained popularity about 400 years ago, craftsmen in Mino began producing artistic tea utensils. Shino (white and textured), Kizeto (yellow ocher), Oribe (green pattern over light gray base) and Setoguro (black) are representative of these crafts. Now, 15 types of Mino ware are government-recognized traditional crafts of Japan.
Nowadays, there are many manufacturers of Mino ware, with factories producing large numbers of these fine ceramics. A side variety of ceramics, including tableware, tiles, and tools are produced by inheriting the techniques of the past and being challenged to create new technologies for the future. Mino ware’s long history and high quality makes it a prime example of Japanese ceramics and an excellent addition to any collection.
