  Aizu lacquer ware

Aizu lacquer ware is a nationally recognized traditional craft in Fukushima Prefecture. It was developed around the 16th century. Wood craftsmen and lacquer masters were brought from Hino (now Shiga prefecture) at that time, and the craftsmanship was handed down. It became one of the popular lacquer ware production regions. Now new techniques are being sought and Aizu lacquer ware still keeps evolving.
